We assist families in evaluating and identifying the most supportive school environments for their child, helping to ensure that every student has the opportunity to thrive both academically and emotionally.
Additionally, we offer expert consultation on a range of educational topics, including 504 Accommodation Plans and Individualized Education Plans (IEPs), to support students’ unique learning needs. As part of this process, we can provide a detailed report that helps parents and schools determine whether a 504 Plan or IEP should be considered for a child in the school setting. For parents seeking a deeper understanding of these options, we also offer confidential psychoeducational sessions to discuss the purpose, process, and implementation of 504 Plans and IEPs.
Luisa Anderson is a psychotherapist who is fluent in English, Portuguese and Spanish. She holds a Master's degree in School Counseling and a Specialist degree in Mental Health Counseling, and is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in Florida.
Luisa's training includes children, adolescents and adults. She has experience with suicide risk assessment, cognitive behavioral therapy, brief solution-focused therapy, play therapy, couple therapy, grief counseling, school-related issues, and college and career counseling.
Luisa has vast experience with children and teenagers in school and clinical settings as well as experience with adults in clinical settings. She has worked as a school counselor (aka guidance counselor) in public schools and as a psychotherapist in clinical settings with kids, teens and adults.
As a licensed mental health counselor, Luisa's scope of practice includes:
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a structured, goal-oriented form of psychotherapy that helps individuals identify and change unhelpful thought patterns and behaviors. It is based on the idea that our thoughts, feelings, and actions are interconnected, and that by changing negative thinking, we can improve how we feel and behave. CBT is evidence-based and commonly used to treat conditions such as anxiety, depression, and stress-related disorders.
Brief Solution-Focused Therapy (BSFT) is a short-term, goal-directed approach that focuses on a person's strengths and resources rather than problems or past issues. It helps clients envision their desired future and identify small, achievable steps to move toward that vision. BSFT emphasizes what is already working in a person’s life and builds on those successes to create positive change.
Grief counseling is a supportive therapeutic process that helps individuals cope with the emotional, physical, and psychological effects of loss. It provides a safe space to express feelings, understand the grieving process, and find ways to adjust to life without the loved one. The goal is not to "move on" but to find a healthy way to integrate the loss into one’s life and continue living with meaning.
Directive play therapy, such as Cognitive-Behavioral Play Therapy and Adlerian Play Therapy, is a structured approach where the therapist takes an active role in guiding the play to address specific emotional or behavioral issues. Through planned activities and interventions, the therapist helps the child express feelings, develop coping skills, and work through challenges in a safe, creative environment.
College and Career Counseling helps students and adults explore educational and career options that align with their interests, strengths, and goals. Through assessments, personalized guidance, and planning, counselors support clients in making informed decisions about college selection, career paths, and skill development. This process empowers individuals to navigate transitions confidently and build fulfilling academic and professional futures.
